Nos quatro dias de inauguração

da Bienal de Veneza,se reunem nesta

cidade linda,o jet set mundial das

artes plásticas.Curadores de todos os

museus e coleções particulares,

galeristas,artistas e colecionadores

do mundo inteiro. Festas acontecem

pelos palácios e galerias,inaugurações

dos pavilhões de cada país, barcos

imensos parados na frente dos "Giardini",

onde mais festas acontecem sem parar.

Por onde se anda,se encontra pessoas

interessantes que estão lá para

ver e falar do melhor que está se

produzindo no mundo das artes.

Minha amiga Luciana Giannella estava lá,

e me contou tudo que ela mais gostou!

A Bienal de Veneza se divide em partes,

de um lado há uma exposição feita

a partir da mão dos curadores convidados

pela fundação Biennale di Venezia,

se dividindo entre os galpões do

Arsenale e um pavilhão nos Giardine-

no caso desta edição,Fare Mondi,

com curadoria de Birnbaum e de Volz.

De outro lado ,há as 60 representações

nacionais,as mostras nos pavilhões

pertencentes aos paises abrigados por

todo o espaço dos Giardini,

e alguns no Arsenale,

neles estão os artistas escolhidos

por curadores convidados por cada nação.

E tem também os eventos colaterais,

exposições que acontecem espalhadas

por toda a cidade.

Os imigrantes são os personagens desta

projeção de Wodiczko.

Feita especialmente para a Bienal,

transforma o espaço do pavilhão Polonês em um

lugar onde os expectadores assistem cenas

que acontecem do lado de fora,

em uma ilusão de janelas com vidros jateados,

que ofuscam as imagens,onde imigrantes

lavam janelas,descansam,conversam sobre seus

problemas existenciais,sobre sua ilegalidade, etc...

Vale a pena entrar no ótimo site

e ler mais sobre este trabalho que é

muito interessante.

Esta exposição é sensacional,

vale a pena entrar no site e ler tudo sobre ela!

A woman's body flickers behind a veil of barbed

wire and Arabic script. Against a background of

Arabic female voices,a mother reads letters in English

to her daughter who is living in exile.

Loving, guilty, anxious, faintly angry, her monologue has

the quality of a material archetype.At the end she

warns that this may be her last letter;

the post office has been bombed and the

telephone lines have been inoperative for years.

Performed by Mona Hatoum reading from her own

mother's letters,the 1988 film "Measures of Distance" is an

appropriate opening to the latest show

from an artist whose oeuvre is distinguished by

her capacity to fuse personal and political

experience.

Hatoum's vision springs from the trauma of

her own displacement.Born in Beirut in 1952,she

was the daughter of Palestinian refugees who had

fled the Israelis in 1948.In 1975,she was on a trip to London

when civil war in Lebanon broke out.

Unable to return home,she enrolled at the Slade

School of Art and made London her base.

Today she divides her time between the UK and Berlin,

consciously embracing the exile that was

originally thrust upon her.

Hatoum's nomadic sensibility is refleted in

her obsession with maps,borders and territory.

The title work of this show,"Interior Landscapes",

features a bed with a barbed-wire frame,the pillow

embroidered with a map of Palestine made from

human hair.The same elongated lozenge of land is

re-elaborated in a shopping bag fashioned out of a map

and a blood-red coat hanger.
